'Street Fighter V' Roster: Charlie Nash Returns, New Beta Program Announced

Street Fighter V: Charlie vs. Chun Li 02
Street Fighter V was only announced a few short months ago, and already, fans are foaming at the mouth. With just one look at the trailer, it’s easy to see why: not only is Street Fighter V gorgeous, but the new gameplay and fighting systems look like they’ll simultaneously push things forward and bring some of the previous entries’ best aspects back into focus.
There’s only one problem: Street Fighter V has gone completely dark following its reveal. Fans know that Ryu and Chun Li are in the game, and that it’s going to be a PlayStation 4 console exclusive…but that’s about it.

With E3 2015 looming in the distance, many were expecting to see Street Fighter V make a huge appearance at the show. While it’s likely that such an event will still happen, Capcom and the PlayStation blog have given fans a bit of an early teaser:
That’s right, Charlie Nash is back, and…he’s a zombie?
Yes, Guile’s best friend has certainly seen better days. While the character hasn’t made a proper playable appearance since Street Fighter Alpha 3, that hasn’t stopped him from playing an important part in the game’s overall story. Before Street Fighter V, it was assumed that Charlie – or Nash, as he’s called in the new game – was dead. Clearly, that’s not quite the case.
In past games, Nash was extremely similar to Guile, but distinct enough to avoid being a simple clone. Now, there seems to be a new focus on teleportation: Nash still shares Guile’s signature Sonic Boom attack, but the trailer shows the undead fighter vanishing and reappearing several times. Previously, this ability was reserved Dhalsim, and it wasn’t nearly as agile – it looks like Nash is going to be a bit harder to pin down in Street Fighter V.

Other than watching Nash smack both Chun Li and Ryu across the stage, the trailer also briefly announces an online beta. Anyone who preorders the game on either PlayStation 4 or PC will have access to the test, and while any further details are scarce, it’s safe to say that the beta isn’t all that far off.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Street Fighter trailer if it didn’t end with another all-too-obvious character tease: it looks like M. Bison will be making yet another appearance in Street Fighter V!
While there’s still no firm release date for the game, expect Street Fighter V to hit store shelves sometime later this year.
